PLAY!

Sometimes it's hard to put down our busies and play with our kids - but once we force ourselves to stop what we're are doing and put a little effort towards PLAYING - magic happens!

I tend to get stressed out about crafts and supplies and the mess and the crazies - especially when there are different ages around (you homeschooling moms are incredible!!!)

This summer I'm focusing one type of craft each week to keep it SIMPLE!

This weeks Craft is ORIGAMI and Paper Crafts

I love origami because it doesn't require anything special (you can even use computer paper). And there's something for every age.

Here's an easy site to get the little ones started:

http://web-japan.org/kidsweb/virtual/origami2/exploring01.html

This next site is great. It even has napkin folding origami!! See - you can get carried away if you want and talk about the history of origami and make it a whole Japanese culture week. The kids can even submit photos of their creations. If you sign up for their newsletter you get a free e-book with tons of great idea like creating animals with dollar bills.

This next two sites are for older kids that want to take it to the next level - it called papercrafting. It can get very detailed and complex and is even challenging my 15 year old!

What are you going to play today?

I can't fold a darn thing. I always tried to teach origami to my fourth graders...we did other crafts instead. You have inspired me I am off to find some ideas for this summer...I am determined to have a schedule and not let my morning sickness keep me in bed!

Can I just play a game of 'Age Of Empires' instead? I know it's just me and the computer - would that still count? :) I'll let the children all play a game on the computer. :)

My house is loaded in paper - seriously. You woulnd't believe HOW much paper we have. It's an addiction I've got. Sad, but true.

Not sure if I want to do origami - I've got books on it - but some days I can't follow instructions - I've tried.

It's an idea though. :) One I can keep for our homeschool co-op days. :)
